How to install Litematica
Litematica is the mod that reads a schematic file and shows the build as a ghost in your world, block by block. It needs two files beside it, and they have to match your Minecraft version exactly.
The three files
Litematica is a Fabric mod, so you install three things in this order:
- Fabric Loader — the loader itself. Run its installer, pick your Minecraft version, and it adds a new profile to the Minecraft launcher.
- Fabric API — the shared library almost every Fabric mod expects. Drop the
.jarin your mods folder. - MaLiLib and Litematica — MaLiLib is Litematica's own library. Both
.jarfiles go in the same mods folder.
The mods folder is %appdata%\.minecraft\mods on Windows,
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods on macOS and
~/.minecraft/mods on Linux. Create it if it is not there yet.
Version matching is not optional
All four files must be built for the same Minecraft version. A Litematica built for 1.20.1 will not load on 1.21, and the game will either crash on startup or silently drop the mod. If Minecraft starts but the Litematica menu is missing, a version mismatch is almost always why.
Check it worked
Launch the Fabric profile and press M. The Litematica main menu opens. If it
does not, open the Mods screen from the title menu — if Litematica is not listed there, the
.jar is either in the wrong folder or built for another version.
Fabric or Forge?
Litematica is Fabric-only. On Forge the usual substitute is Schematica for old versions, or WorldEdit for anything server-side. Our tool comparison covers which one reads which file format.
